Heating Assistance

Summit Heating Assistance Fund (SHAF)

Summit Utilities (AOG), in partnership with United Way of Fort Smith Area, provides critical support through the Summit Heating Assistance Fund (SHAF) to individuals and families struggling to keep their homes warm during the coldest months of the year. Heating costs continue to rise, and for many local households, choosing between paying utility bills and covering other essential needs has become increasingly difficult. Through the Summit Heating Assistance Fund, households experiencing financial hardship can receive direct help with winter utility bills, allowing them to maintain warmth, stability, and security. The fund prioritizes vulnerable populations—including seniors, low-income families, and individuals facing unexpected emergencies—so that those most at risk can access assistance when they need it most. This fund was created to help bridge that gap, ensuring that no family in our region is left without safe, reliable heat. Summit Heating Assistance Fund (SHAF) will begin Monday, January 5th, 2026. Those in need can apply through March 31st or until funds have been exhausted. This assistance is for AOG customers only.

For questions or to apply for assistance, AOG customers can email SHAF@unitedwayfortsmith.org or call 479-782-1311.

Your generosity fuels more than heaters—it fuels hope, dignity, and peace of mind for neighbors who might otherwise face the winter without adequate warmth. Due to the United Way of Fort Smith Area's Endowment, 100% of your contribution goes directly toward providing immediate relief, preventing disconnections, and supporting families as they work toward long-term stability. Together, we can make a meaningful impact on families across our community.
