Touch-A-Truck , June 21st 10 am – 2 pm , Van Buren High School
United Way of Fort Smith Area is excited to announce its 1st Annual Touch-A-Truck, a FREE Child Safety and Wellness Event.
This event provides kids of all ages with the opportunity to see, touch, and explore life-size vehicles and interact with community support leaders like police officers, firemen, construction workers, military personnel and many more! Vehicles you can expect to see include construction and farm equipment, safety and transportation vehicles, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, tractors, and a Life Flight Helicopter. Military personnel will have an M37 from Fort Chaffee and a Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) from the 142nd Field Artillery Regiment.
In addition to equipment and vehicles, local businesses will provide hotdogs, chips, drinks and sugar-free popsicles. Smokey the Bear will be on hand to give out door prizes, including bicycles that have been donated by local businesses. The event also provides an educational value on top of being great entertainment for the kids. There will be literature available on eating right and keeping active. The Army National Guard Recruitment and Retention will provide an obstacle course and Humvee golf cart, Farm Bureau will provide car seat safety information, Crawford County Extension will have information on food and gardening, Hamilton House and the Morgan Nick Foundation will provide child safety information, and much, much more!
United Way of Fort Smith Area is proud to host this local, inaugural event, and we are hoping to have a great turn out. Touch-A-Truck is exclusively designed with children in mind although, big kids enjoy the experience just as much. It’s an event that gives kids an opportunity to see trucks and vehicles up close and from the inside; something they might not otherwise have the chance to do. We encourage parents, Boys and Girls Clubs, preschool programs, Mother’s Day Out groups, daycares and church groups to bring their children out for a great day of fun and learning!
The event will be held June 21st from 10am to 2pm at Van Buren High School. Event partners are: the City of Van Buren, Van Buren Public Schools, the American Red Cross, Bold Dental, Community Services Clearinghouse and the River Valley Food Bank. Vehicles, food items, information and door prizes will be provided by the following:
