Pacesetter companies -
teaming up to reach new heights
The 2009 United Way Campaign will get a jump-start with the help of this year's Pacesetter companies. Pacesetter companies conduct United Way campaigns in August. A Pacesetter "sets the pace" for area businesses and organizations, helping give momentum to the United Way Campaign. This year, United Way is asking that Pacesetters conduct their campaigns prior to September 1st and submit totals by September 4th. This will enable United Way to announce a grand Pacesetter total at the Campaign Kick-off on September 10th. The first annual Pacesetter of the Year Award will be given out to recognize a Pacesetter company that goes above and beyond for its annual United Way campaign. The award will be presented at the Campaign Kick-off in conjunction with the Pacesetter total announcement. Criteria for the award is based on total points achieved in accomplishing the following goals:
- 25 points: 5% or more increase in employee campaign participation.
- 20 points: 8% or more increase in leadership participation.
- 15 points: Increase in corporate gift.
- 10 points: 5% or more increase in total campaign dollars raised.
- 10 points: 5% or more increase in employee per capita contribution (total employee contribution divided by number of employees).
- 10 points: 5% or more increase in average contribution amount (total employee contribution divided by total givers).
- 10 points: One or more employees volunteer for United Way or one of its community partners.
Thank you to the 2009 Pacesetter Companies for helping get the campaign off to a great start! | |

Loaned Executives Leadership today for tomorrow
United Way has been busy assembling a fantastic group of volunteers to help with the campaign this year.
Senior Loaned Executives have recruited their teams of loaned executives to call on companies just like you for the campaign. This group of volunteers helps make campaign possible each and every year.
A special thank you to each of the Senior LE's and LE's for donating their time and talents to help this year. Also, United Way is very grateful to all of our volunteers' companies for "loaning" your employees to help raise dollars for the campaign. United Way and the community thank you! |

Campaign ideas for hot weather months
- What better way to beat the heat than with ice cream? Have employees donate $1.00 or $2.00 to build an ice cream sundae. Sell ice cream sandwiches, popsicles, coke or root beer floats on a designated day of each week throughout the hot weather months.
- Host casual day for your office work place. Sell Casual Day buttons for $5. Let employees break away from suits for a day and wear more cool and casual summer attire.
- Raffle summer themed baskets for employees to buy chances to win. Fill a beach bag with pool goodies such as a beach towel, a cooler or a lounge chair. Make a summer trip basket with tickets to a theme park, movie passes or other great family outing employees can enjoy with their loved ones.
- Celebrate the warm weather by hosting a mini luau. Charge $5 and serve ham, pineapple upside-down cake and other Hawaiian fare to employees. Give prizes to those wearing the most outrageous Hawaiian outfit.
- Help employees beat the heat by raffling off an executive, visitor or close parking space. During hot weeks, sell $1 tickets for the chance to park in a nearby spot for a week, month or throughout the campaign.

| Make an impact on children's lives
STUFF THE BUS The fifth annual Stuff the Bus school supply drive will be held on Friday, July 24 and Saturday, July 25 at participating Walmart locations throughout our six-county service area. In 2008, more than 33,000 packages of new school supplies were collected at 13 locations. The donated items were given to 23 school districts and partner agencies. Not only do the donated supplies help children with their studies, having a new backpack or notebook can really help raise a child's self-esteem. Feeling good about themselves and having the tools they need to complete their schoolwork really helps children get off on the right foot as they start a new school year. Volunteers are needed at Fort Smith locations to collect supplies to ensure that children start the school year off on the right foot, to assist them with their studies and help build self-esteem. Volunteer shifts are for approximately two hours. To volunteer, contact Sarah Fowler at 479.782.1311 or email at sarahfowler@mynewroads.com.
